The Office of National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC)
The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC) is the independent State institution established according to the Thai Constitution of 1997 to promote and protect the human rights in Thailand and at the international level. It comprises 11 members elected by the Senate with knowledge and experience in the field of human rights. Under the National Human Rights Commission Act B.E. 2542 (1999), the NHRC is mandated to function as follow ?h To promote respect for human rights at domestic and international levels; ?h To examine and report the commission or omission of acts which violate human rights or which do not comply with obligations under international human rights treaties to which Thailand is a party; ?h To propose policies and amendments of laws, rules and regulations for the promotion and protection of human rights to authorities concerned; ?h To promote human rights education and research, including the dissemination of human rights information; ?h To promote co-ordination and co-operation in the field of human rights among governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and others; ?h To prepare two annual reports on human rights situation in the country and on the Commission¡¦s annual performance; ?h To give opinions on Thailand¡¦s ratification of or accession to any human rights treaties.
