Major contracts have also been done for EGAT since 1990 which include two large surveys at the Mae Moh mine near Lampang. These surveys totalled some 250 kms of detailed high resolution seismic using dynamite as an energy source. The work also involved the acquisition of seismic refraction data along all lines prior to reflection acquisition in order to determine the exact depth of weathering. This information was then used to guide the drill rigs to the correct depth for the placement of the seismic charges. GEOCON is both based and registered as a company in Lampang and this was originally chosen as a logistical base due to it's proximity to Mae Moh mine. All equipment and personnel are mobilised from this base site. GEOCON is now specialising in the Mini-SOSIE data acquisition technique due to both it's simplicity and also lack of environmental damage. This means it is much easier to organise permitting of land sites and involves much less compensation to land owners. The Mini-SOSIE method avoids the use of explosives which presents both major cost increases in acquisition of data but also safety and permitting problems associated with their use. GEOCON Co. Ltd is a Thailand based seismic Company that has been operating on a continuous basis in the country in the acquisition of high resolution seismic data since 1990. The company operates several systems including dynamite data acquisition, Mini-SOSIE data acquisition, refraction and engineering seismic work programs. In Thailand GEOCON has worked extensively in both coal and potash exploration with surveys having been done using the Mini-SOSIE method in Khon Kaen, Korat and Udon Thani for potash; Hang Chat, Mae Lamao, Hua Hin for coal lease evaluation. These contracts have been both for the Department of Mineral Resources and also for private companies. GEOCON has been involved for several years in over 500 kms of 2D seismic data acquisition plus three 3D surveys in the Udon Thani area of Thailand for a Thai-Canadian joint venture project exploring for potash. About us Since 1995 GEOCON has developed it's own seismic data acquisition system (JAFSS) with a computer processing interface integrated into the system. This system was built entirely in Thailand and was the first system in the world to offer true online brute stack capability. This enables the client to interactively plan his seismic program as the data acquisition results are available instantaneously. The system has complete inbuilt self diagnostic capability and also extensive software data manipulation and examination capability. The JAFSS system was extended and expanded in late 1996 to handle 3D (3 dimensional) seismic data acquisition and can efficiently record such data whilst still providing the field brute stack capability. A newer version of the JAFSS system was developed in 2003 called WOFSS and this system offers double the channel capacity of the original JAFSS system. GEOCON also operates its own coordinate survey control through the use of a sophisticated differential GPS (Global Positioning System) which has sub-metre accuracy. GEOCON exclusively uses the processing part of the VELSEIS group, VELSEIS PROCESSING Pty Ltd for all it's data processing. This company has extensive experience in this area and has both processed and interpreted many 2D and 3D seismic surveys both for Australian clients and also clients overseas.
